The arrival of spring has always brought with it an insatiable sense of rejuvenation and new beginnings. The changing season paints a vivid picture of renewal, as nature blossoms with colour and vitality. This time of year reminds us that growth is not only a natural process but also an opportunity to reflect on the ways we can evolve and enhance our lives. Just as the earth awakens from its winter slumber, we, too, are inspired to embrace change and transformation.
Rain does not fall on one roof alone – African Proverb
The concept of renewal and growth is central to everything we do at VVM which is why this proverb serves as a reminder that growth and challenges are shared experiences, and together, we can overcome any obstacles. Together, let’s embrace the possibilities of spring and the opportunities it brings for growth and renewal.
Dear VVM Community,
Spring brings with it a powerful transformative power, one I believe plays an important role in reflection. Reflection is important for evolution; whether it is in business or personal growth. Technology, automation, and AI have become a very relevant and necessary factor of modern evolution but it is not the only evolution we must focus on. We must remember that human evolution is equally vital. It’s about the impact we create in our lives, families, and communities.
In our journey towards progress, we must strike a balance between technological advancements and the essence of human connection. While technology enhances efficiency and innovation, it is the human touch that enriches our experiences.
Change is constant, and our ability to adapt determines our success. As Carl Jung once said, “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” For more than 30 years we have been dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous improvement that extends beyond our organisation, encouraging each of us to embrace personal growth and development.
More so than ever collective growth is important. Through supportive environment we can create opportunities for collaboration and shared success. Here is to the new season that may bring with it new periods of reflections, growth, success and joy. Together, we can continue to create a brighter, more prosperous future, grounded in compassion, innovation, and shared success.
Warm regards,
Karin Van De Venter
We believe in the power of recognition. Our top performers continually exemplify our WeCare philosophy, working tirelessly with consumers to create sustainable debt arrangements and help them regain financial control.
Throughout the year, we’ve celebrated their achievements at our Top Performers events, recognising those who embody our commitment to excellence and the spirit of “How Can We Help You?”
Recognition at VVM means acknowledging those who go above and beyond to assist consumers. By rewarding our staff for their dedication, we reinforce the values that drive our success and ensure our team continues to deliver exceptional service both internally and externally.
Six months ago, we introduced you to Jerry, a dedicated and hardworking individual from Limpopo who joined VVM in 2012 with little knowledge of collections and computers. His story of perseverance and dedication resonated with many. Today, we bring you an exciting update on Jerry’s journey and achievements within VVM.
Recently promoted to Call Centre Manager, Jerry’s rise through the ranks is a testament to his unwavering commitment and the support of his colleagues and management. “It was not that hard because I knew what I wanted. My short-term goal was to be a junior manager, but instead, I became a Call Centre Manager, which came as a shock,” Jerry reflects. Despite feeling unprepared initially, Jerry’s experience and the support from his team made the transition smoother.
Jerry’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of setting clear goals and working diligently towards them. His journey from team leader to managing 65 agents highlights his ability to adapt and excel in new challenges.
“Sometimes you can know what you’re doing, but without confidence, it’s very difficult to express yourself. The training we received made it easier to communicate, engage, and understand what was needed,” Jerry explains.
A key figure in Jerry’s success has been Rentia, who mentored him and instilled the importance of confidence and knowing your numbers. This mentorship has been crucial in helping Jerry navigate his new responsibilities and excel in his role.
“The most important thing is to have confidence in everything you’re doing. Know your numbers because sometimes you can know what you’re doing, but without confidence, it’s hard to express yourself.”
Jerry’s commitment to his team and their collective success is evident in his approach to leadership. His dedication to mentoring newly promoted team leaders under his wing reflects his belief in the power of teamwork and shared success.
“Our goal is to ensure VVM remains number one. We work as a team to make VVM the best, and with more achievements, we can create more opportunities and jobs. My vision for the next six months is to see these leaders excel. Once they are confident and performing at their best, I’ll be ready for the next challenge.”
Jerry’s journey is also a story of personal growth and resilience. As a proud father and grandfather, his dedication to his family’s well-being drives his professional ambitions. Providing his daughter with the opportunity to study psychology and building a house for his mother are just a few examples of how Jerry’s hard work has translated into meaningful achievements outside of work.
Looking to the future, Jerry remains ambitious and focused. “Give me two years, and we can do another interview when I become CEO,” he humorously mentioned in our recent interview. This forward-thinking mindset, coupled with his track record of success, makes it clear that Jerry’s journey is far from over.
Jerry’s story at VVM is not just about his professional growth; it is a narrative of determination, mentorship, and the courage to dream big. His journey inspires his colleagues and serves as a powerful example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.
“Wherever I go, I always say I am better than the rest. It’s no longer about me; it’s about the team that’s under me. We say we are better than the rest,” Jerry proudly declares.
His story continues to inspire, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for Jerry and his team at VVM.
This year, VVM embraced the Mandela Day challenge with a heartwarming initiative. Our team came together to create packages adorned with inspiring quotes from Nelson Mandela. This year we chose to do something slightly different from what we typically do and chose to spread joy to everyday people at the bustling intersection of Hill and Malibongwe.
The smiles and gratitude from passersby were a testament to the impact of small acts of kindness. We also shared a meal with the less fortunate, listening to their stories and sharing ours.
Our mission at VVM is to ensure that we assist our debtors daily by showing them we care about them. We have to realise that we are all debtors. Our hope is that at least one of the cars that received goodies from VVM was driven by a debtor in our portfolio, and that they now know, more than ever, that we care.
Our mission is to make a positive impact, one smile at a time. Let’s continue to spread love, kindness, and positivity every day.
We believe that education is a powerful pathway to opportunity and personal development. It equips people with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate an ever-evolving world and provides a foundation for lifelong success. However, we also recognise that life can often create barriers to accessing this vital pathway. Many people face financial constraints and other challenges that can make pursuing educational goals difficult.
In response to these challenges, we are proud to introduce the VVM Bursary Program, a new initiative designed to overcome these barriers and provide meaningful support to our staff and their families. The program aims to assist those eager to pursue further education but may lack the necessary resources to do so. By investing in education, we are investing in the future of our employees, their families, and our community at large.
We are thrilled to celebrate our first four recipients and look forward to seeing them excel in their studies. This program underscores our commitment to empowering our team through education and growth.
